Raw Materials and Production Process of Diamond Wheels for Glass Straight Edging Machines

1. Raw Materials

Diamond wheels for glass straight edging machines are metal-bonded superabrasive tools. Their manufacturing materials are strictly selected to ensure high hardness, wear resistance and machining stability for glass processing.

Synthetic Diamond Powder

As the core abrasive material, synthetic diamond powder undertakes the cutting and grinding work of glass edging. Diamond particles with specific grain sizes and uniform granularity are selected according to different glass edging precision requirements, which directly determines the grinding efficiency and finish of the wheel.

Metal Matrix Powder

It is the bonding material of the diamond wheel, mainly including copper powder, tin powder, iron powder, nickel powder and cobalt powder. The alloyed metal matrix can firmly lock diamond particles, provide excellent mechanical strength, impact resistance and wear resistance, and prevent diamond grains from falling off during high-speed operation.

Auxiliary Additives

Including desulfurizers, deoxidizers and powdered lubricants. These additives optimize the sintering reaction, improve the internal structure uniformity of the wheel body, reduce sintering defects, and enhance the overall compactness and service life of the diamond layer.

Wheel Base Body

Made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel. It serves as the structural support of the diamond wheel, ensures the overall rigidity of the tool, and matches the mounting and operation requirements of glass straight edging machines.

2. Production Process

The production of diamond wheels adopts mature powder metallurgy sintering process, with standardized and precise procedures as follows:

Step 1: Raw Material Preparation

Screen and inspect synthetic diamond powder and various metal powders to remove impurities and unqualified particles. Clean and dry all raw materials to ensure consistent raw material quality and avoid affecting subsequent sintering effects.

Step 2: Proportioning and Mixing

Accurately weigh diamond powder, metal matrix powder and auxiliary additives according to the fixed formula ratio. Put all materials into a professional powder mixer for full and uniform mixing to form a homogeneous composite mixed powder, ensuring even distribution of diamond particles in the metal matrix.

Step 3: Mold Filling

Clean and preheat the customized pressing mold. Evenly pour the mixed powder into the mold, and place the treated steel wheel base in the fixed position of the mold to ensure the accurate structure of the composite layer and the base body.

Step 4: Cold Press Forming

Adopt hydraulic press for cold pressing treatment. Under fixed pressure, the mixed powder is compacted and preliminarily formed to produce a dense diamond-metal composite blank, which has stable shape and preliminary structural strength.

Step 5: Vacuum Pressure Sintering

Put the pressed blank into a vacuum sintering furnace. Through precise control of temperature, pressure and holding time, the metal matrix powder is fused and densified, so that diamond particles are firmly embedded in the metal matrix. This process eliminates internal pores and realizes integral consolidation of the working layer.

Step 6: Precision Machining

Perform finishing processes including turning, milling and grinding on the sintered wheel. Precisely machine the working surface, outer diameter, mounting hole and end face of the diamond wheel to meet dimensional tolerance, flatness and roundness standards required by equipment operation.

Step 7: Dynamic Balancing Test

Carry out high-precision dynamic balancing detection on the finished wheel. Correct unbalance defects to ensure no vibration or jitter during high-speed rotation, guaranteeing stable glass edging quality and prolonging machine service life.

Step 8: Inspection and Packaging

Conduct full inspection on product hardness, diamond concentration, dimensional accuracy, surface finish and structural stability. Qualified diamond wheels are cleaned, rust-proof treated and packaged for factory delivery and equipment application.
